JUCO represents the collaborative work of Julia Galdo and Cody Cloud. I love the simple genius that has gone into these works to make them so powerful. In the first few images it can be determined that there is not a lot to these works - simply a model posing wearing clothing that directly matches an intricate and beautiful backdrop. The images are all taken on a very direct angle and it seems that dramatic poses have been avoided. This simplicity is wonderful however I believe the reason that these images have such a hold on their viewers is that the backdrops are almost representative of the state of the characters within the scene. In image one the lines in the print of the background are very rigid, hard, direct and purposeful. The character presented before us displays these characteristics in his gaze. In image two the same could be said, the woman portrayed has her eyes shut in an almost a meditative state. The waves that are present in the backdrop directly relate with a trance like state. The lines are repetitive and natural in appearance, very similar to delta waves that occur during deep meditation/reflection or even sleep.
