Dylan Maddux's work has appeared through several printed publications and websites throughout the years, to the point that his style might be instantly recognisable by those who look at photography with a keen and expert outlook. As a photographer, Maddux mostly focuses on fashion and intern design photography. Hailing from Los Angeles by way of Cambodia, Maddux set out to develop an interesting compromise between a "retro" feel and a modern approach throughout his work. His compositions represent the "modern" side of his approach, creating particular attention the meaning of a pose, a shade of light or a particular background setting. These images are expressive and alive, but the reason for this dynamic vibe does not only lay within the artist's approach to composition: His photography feels organic, natural and warm, whether he's processing black and white shots or colour images. The use of contrast is deliberately moderate, creating less sharp images with a wider, more open feel. While many fashion photographers emphasize strongly on the subject, Dylan Maddux set out to create scenes in which the surroundings and background are extremely inter-connected with the role of the main subject within the photograph itself. This is an unusual approach, but as showcased by Maddux’s powerful image, it certainly works.
