Fabian Oefner is renowned in the photography field for bringing science and art together in a beautiful fashion. Capturing movement in some of it's most interesting moments. Energy passing through liquid, paint exploding and dancing, bubbles bursting and captured at the pivotal moment of it's demise. Oefner opens up a new world that is usually invisible to the human eye - creating a magical moment for his audience.
Oefner's campaign with LG was a great progression in how we experience or think about sound in its physical form. Oefner chose to make sound visible - depicting the waves that it travels in. This was accomplished by placing a large yet very thin sheet of plastic over the top of a powerful speaker, then tiny coloured crystals were placed on the sheet of plastic in various formations. The music was then blasted out of the speakers and the movement of the crystals, illustrating the movement and vibrations of sound.
The use of lighting is also extraordinary. Oefner explained in a TED Talk presentation (presentation link below) that he gained a mild sunburn on half of his body due to the extremly bright lighting that they used on set. I am actually not sure if this is true or a joke, however it gives you a sense of the abnormal lighting that was necessary when shooting with such a fast camera.
